Tubbataha Reef - the Philippine's most remote diving!

The Philippines is full of great diving, but the most awe inspiring spot is Tubbataha Reef. This isolated reef, 181km off the coast of Palawan, is extremely remote and can only be accessed by liveaboard. On this special trip with Equator Diving you will experience this special dive destination from the comfort of the SY Philippine Siren. The trip promises big fish action from start to finish! As this is a relatively short trip you may also want to combine it with another Philippine dive destination or even Micronesia - talk to us about the options!

The Diving

Tubbataha consists of two atolls (North and South) and the Jessie Beazley reefs. Tubbataha's North atoll is 16km long, whilst the South atoll is smaller at 5km long - inbetween the two atolls is a deep 8km wide channel. At Tubbataha vertical walls and dramatic drop offs provide for the Philippines best big fish diving! Expect to see large Napoleon wrasse, barracuda, schooling trevally, Dogtooth tuna, turtles, Grey reef sharks, the occasional Hammerhead, Thresher sharks, Whale sharks and plenty of Mantas! For sharks fans dive sites such as Shark Airport and Amos Rock are often highlights with frequent encounters with Tiger sharks, Silvertips and of course more Mantas! Tubbataha also has the Malayan and Delsan wrecks, plus some great macro diving at Seafan alley, including Longnose Hawkfish and Pygmy Seahorse.

The Boat

The 40 metre SY Philippine Siren has been designed and built using the lessons learnt from previous Siren yachts. The large cabins have an elegant teak finish and can accommodate both double and twin sleeping arrangements. The dining area is spacious offering a great setting for all your meals. The dive deck has more space and there are excellent facilities for underwater photographers and videographers. With designated areas for charging and preparation of your camera and video equipment, the SY Philippine Siren truly sets out to be the pros choice. Built on the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi, she is a traditional “gaft rigged Phinisi” handcrafted from ironwood and teak. You will find no other dive liveaboard as beautiful in Philippine waters.

Cost and arrangements

The cost of the trip is 1,695GBP (2,695USD) per person, including 6 nights on the Philippine Siren, 19 dives (inc 3 night dives), free Nitrox, equipment rental, all meals, soft drinks, beer, tea/coffee and return transfers between Puerto Princesa airport and the vessel. There are daily flights from worldwide destinations to Manila International Airport and connecting flights with Puerto Princesa. Equator Diving will happily handle all of your flight and hotel arrangements.

Optional add-ons

This liveaboard trip can be combined with critter diving at Anilao or Dumaguete, Thresher Shark diving at Malapascua Island, or Coron Bay for world-class WWII wreck diving. You can also add a 1-day tour to Palawan's Underground River before or after the liveaboard. This spectacular Underground River is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was one of the winners in the recent New 7 Wonders of Nature campaign. Finally, our liveaboard trip has been specifically timed to fit with the schedule of the Truk Odyssey liveaboard (20-27 April 2014) and our Special Ambon Group Trip (19-29 April 2014) - talk to us about the options!
