National Advertising Campaign
The travel profile of the Philippines has been given a sharp boost in May with a series of prominent adverts in some of the most prestigious national newspapers in the UK.
The impressive adverts were launched by DOT London in the travel sections of such broadsheets as the London Metro, the Sunday Times and the Daily Telegraph. The message focused on recently-formulated and competitively-priced all-inclusive holiday packages to the Philippines' 7,107 islands - for only £710.70!
Market response has been amazingly positive with scores of inquires translating into actual bookings. The attractive price even led to a good number of interested travellers wanting longer and more luxurious holiday packages to the country.

Philippines Travel Advisory
Through the constant networking efforts of the Philippine Embassy and PDOT London with the the Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO), the travel advisory to the Philippines - and particularly to the island of Mindanao - has been revised and given a more optimistic tone.
The travel advisory, which previously banned British citizens from travelling to any and all parts of the vast island, now no longer advises against travel to the eastern part of the Mindanao region. While the FCO continues to warn against travel to the southwest and the Sulu archipelago, the review and update of the advisory is a significant step forward in portraying the image of southern Philippines in a more positive light.
With this development, more UK travellers can enjoy the adventure and cultural attractions of Mindanao, such as birdwatching (jump-off from Cagayan de Oro), surfing in Siargao island (jump-off from Surigao), mountain climbing (Mt. Apo from Davao City) and interaction with T'boli and other ethnic tribes (Lake Sebu), among others.
Recently Concluded FAM Trips
DOT London continues to implement different familiariztion (FAM) trips from its source markets across Europe. Recently concluded media FAM trips from the United Kingdom and Spain include:
1. Mark Stratton, a free-lance photojournalist for Wanderlust who explored the Pan-Philippine highway and the attractions and festivals along the route;
2. 14 high-profile Spanish media representatives who covered Manila, Cebu, Bohol and Davao; and
3. Daniel Royo Lopez, a freelance photographer invited to take touristic images of the country. Mr. Royo will contribute his photographs to the DOT/PCVC for complimentary tourism promotional purposes.
DOT London is busily organizing in the visits of more photojournalists and film crews to the Philippines, among which are Teresa Ricart, Spanish free-lance adventure reporter, the Underwater Channel and the UK production teams of "By Any Means" (starring Charley Boorman) and "Last Woman Standing".
Destination of the Month
Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, Mindanao
Siargao, a tear-drop shaped island facing the vast Pacific Ocean, is widely regarded as the "Surfing Capital of the Philippines" and draws massive waves of domestic and international surfers. It can be reached by a two-hour fastcraft service from Surigao City, or directly to the island via SeaAir or Asian Spirit flights. Other ferries are available from Cebu or other points in Mindanao.
The island's unique appeal is due to its outstanding location in between the eastern Philippine seaboard and the western Pacific Ocean. Land and sea clash in this remote part of the Philippines to create incredible surfing waves, the most notable being "Cloud 9" with its thick hollow tubes. Siargao is home to the Philippines' Surfing Cup, which takes place in September every year.
Siargao is also home to the largest mangrove forest reserves in Mindanao and boasts of wetlands populated by vast colonies of migratory birds. Its coastline is dotted by a succession of coral reefs and long stretches of white, sandy beaches. Siargao is also the jump-off point to the Philippine Deep, which was recently featured by Robson Green for deep-sea fishing.
