WOW Philippines E-Newsletter - May 2007

Greetings from the Philippines Department of Tourism London Field Office.

This month, we want to focus particularly on what's been happening with our new website - . First, we've added a "Request Brochures" section where you can ask for various information materials to be sent to you by post. In some cases, you can actually download the .pdf files of some of the materials we have, directly into your computer. It's a fast way of delivering information to as many people as possible.

Next, we've opened the site to various partners to sell their tours and special offers to the Philippines. So if there's an activity or event or package in the Philippines you want to sell thru our website, just send us the appropriate .pdf file and we will upload and promote it here on your behalf!

Third, a video and photo library will soon be part of the site, which will enable clients to view some of the latest Philippine videos and images. There will also be an opportunity to request high-res images from DOT London for free! This section will also include .jpg files of the various logos we use for promotions, downloadble at a click of your button!

Finally, we are developing a blog site where people can share their memorable Philippine experiences. Recent visitors to the country will be encouraged to share their photos in the Philippines, and say a few words about their trip.

These are some of the things that have been keeping us busy. DOT London hopes that all these developments will create a greater awareness of the Philippines as a great holiday destination among the British.

More programs are discussed in the next section of this e-newsletter.

Taxi Philippines

PDOT London has signed a new agreement with Taxi Promotions UK, extending the WOW Philippines Taxi Campaign in London for another year (up to June 2008). This project has become a mainstay for Philippine tourism promotions in London, and is intended to be implemented in other parts of the country as well. Watch out for more developments in the months ahead!

In view of its strong visual presence and impact, this campaign is supported not only here in the United Kingdom, but in the Philippines as well. PDOT London is thus pleased to anchor its consumer promotions activities on a medium that generates much enthusiasm and support.

Destination of the Month

Coron Bay in Northern Palawan

Stunning Dives and Unparalled Exploration

Home to some of the best diving in the Philippines, Coron Bay is blessed with a wide range of dive sites catering to all tastes and levels of experience, from shallow reefs and underwater caves to advanced wreck diving.

The Bay in Coron is most famous for its World War 2 shipwrecks, with a number of sunken Japanese navy boats available to divers. Some wrecks, like the Kyokuzan Maru, can be found close to shore while others are accessible on day trips.

Barracuda Lake is situated in Coron Island and this famous place sees you diving into the heart of a lake where fresh and sea waters sit in layers in front of your eyes and the presence of thermal waters means that temperatures can reach 38 degrees centigrade. This is a truly unique dive.

DOT London has just produced a new brochure on Palawan. The .pdf file will soon be available in the "Request Brochures" section of the WOW Philippines website. For an immediate copy of this new material, please email us at .

PATA enjoys a taste of the Philippines

The Philippines Department of Tourism (PDOT) London Field Office recently hosted a higly successful familiarization trip to the Philippines, in partnership with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) UK Chapter and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, from 26 March to 3 April 2007. The "fam trip" marked another milestone in promoting tourism to the Philippines within the British and European travel market.

The latest PATA group to tour the country was spoiled for choice over the Philippines' scenic attractions, finest products and services. The group was taken on an inspection tour of sites and amenities, deluxe hotels and resorts in Manila, Bohol and Cebu.

The group was very pleased to have experienced some of the many wonders of the Philippines, including the arrangements and activities lined up for them in all three main destinations.

The results of the fam trip were immediate. Some of the participants have begun to include the Philippines in their travel catalogues while others were interested to do joint promotional activities with DOT London and KLM. Another has proposed the invitation of 350 travel trade practioners from the United Kingdom to conduct their meeting in the Philippines next year. Last but not least, the representative of the London Chamber of Commerce intends to push the Philippines as an ideal meetings and incentive travel destination to its corporate membership, in cooperation with DOT London.
