The Philippines Cements its Place as a Premier Birding Destination at the Birdfair
Since its international launch in London in 2008, the Birdwatching Philippines Campaign has gone from strength-to-strength to promote the country as one of the top birding destinations in the world.
PDOT London has relentlessly been implementing numerous marketing activities and projects with the media and UK bird tour operators. The Office has also continually executed numerous familiarization (fam) trips for wildlife writers, bird tour operators and even renowned birders from the British Members of Parliament, all of whom have hailed the country’s top birding sites and splendid bird species.
This month, the Philippines can add another remarkable triumph to its Birdwatching Campaign with its successful participation in the recently concluded British International Birdwatching Fair (Birdfair) on 20-22 August.
The Philippines’ exhibit was a 24-square metre stand with an attractively designed 2-metre high back panel adorned with Philippine avian endemics. The exhibit was manned by Richard De Villa, IT Officer, Lito Mendoza, Administrative and Marketing Staff, Jean Guzman of PDOT London and Manny Guzman, Third Secretary and Vice-Consul of the Philippine Embassy. Supportive birdwatching experts namely Desmond Allen, a prominent British ornithologist, Allie Parish a proficient birdwatcher and Martin Johnson, member of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines were also on hand during the three-day event to address technical queries from visitors.

Memory 4 Students Campaign
Following our successful ongoing campaign with Memory4Teachers, PDOT London is pleased to announce that we have launched our Memory4Students campaign to inspire enthusiastic students to learn more about the Philippines.
Memory4Students is a major ICT initiative providing the learning industry with free USB memory sticks featuring a customized interface containing various software applications and educational resources.
This innovative interface serves as a platform that enables students to have expedient access to a vast amount of educational content that can be used effectively in their daily endeavours. Through this campaign, students will have an efficient medium where they can gain awareness and impart information on the different cultural and natural attractions of the Philippines. They can also discover and join volunteer programs for conservation projects in the Philippines as well as undertake diving experiences in the country.
As the only national tourism organization involved in this five-year campaign, DOT London takes pride in its efforts to communicate directly with the education sector as part of its internet strategy to promote a the Philippines as a learning experience for teachers and students alike.

Festival of the Month
Feast of the Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia
The biggest celebration in the Bicol Region is the Feast of Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia, an annual 9-day event combining religion, culture and tradition.
During the festival, the image of the Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia is brought by devotees from its shrine to the Naga Cathedral for the nine-day novena attended by followers from all over the region and the country. On the last day of the festival, the Image is returned to her shrine by a fluvial parade along the Naga River. The colourful procession is lit by thousands of candles from devotees in boats escorting the Image and those along the banks. Prayers, hymns, brass bands and fireworks follow the barge.
The renowned Image of the Virgin is said to have miraculous powers and on her feast day, thousands of pilgrims gather at the shrine to pay homage to her in fulfilment of graces and favours received.
