Philippines Newsletter - December 2010
We wish to thank you all for your support as we celebrate what is turning out to be a very exciting year-end for Philippines Tourism. Our special edition December E-newsletter, focuses primarily on our recent and ongoing projects and promotions.
We have just concluded two highly thrilling projects, the World Travel Market and the Philippine Tourism Investment Forum earlier this month and both are already generating promising returns. Expect to see more of the London Routemaster buses bearing the Philippines brand roaming the UK's streets as we renew our campaign. Our online promotional campaign is on the upswing as we step-up efforts on the social media front by continually engaging our social media networks.
This consistent drive to pursue innovative projects, participate at trade and consumer exhibitions continues to result in a boom in tourist arrivals from our European markets this year. Arrivals from the UK from January to August already number 64,484 visitors, a growth of 10.57% from the previous year. This trend looks set to continue as we target breaching 100,000 UK visitors for 2010!

World Travel Market
The Philippines' participation at the 31st World Travel Market this year has by far been its most successful yet on all accounts.
The 153-square metre Philippines booth, for the first time ever was positioned at the very front of the Asia Pacific Hall with almost all the visitors to the Philippine Stand expressing their compliments on such a beautiful stand. The stand itself was captured by a tremendous number of media outlets including WTM ABTA Daily, Eurosport TV and CNN Business Traveller, among others.
The jubilant Philippine travel trade, exclaimed to DOT London that WTM this year should be the global benchmark for all fairs participated in by the Department. They expressed amazement on the number of productive meetings they conducted, with some carrying out 40-60 during the duration of the event and approximately 90% of the contacts signifying interest of featuring the Philippines.
The lucrative mainstream UK travel trade is even already taking notice of the country, evident by three huge tour operators already working to start their Philippines programme.
Philippine Tourism Investment Forum
The Philippine Tourism Investment Forum, held last 9 November at Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) Law Offices at Adelaide House, London Bridge was a resounding accomplishment for the country.
The Forum, with the theme "Philippine Tourism: Outlook and Investment Opportunities", was jointly organized by the PDOT, Philippine Trade and Investment Centre London, Philippine Embassy in London, Hotel in a Box in cooperation with BLP.
The event successfully showcased the country as a prime investment destination for tourism and hospitality related projects. In his keynote speech, Tourism Secretary Alberto outlined all the benefits and advantages that make the Philippines one of the most attractive investment destinations in the world. Other speakers at the forum included: former British Ambassador to the Philippines and current Friends Philippine Chairman, Paul Dimond; PTIC-London Commercial Attaché and Director Michael Alfred V. Ignacio; and Katrina Panlilio-Craig, Managing Director of Hotel in a Box.
After the forum, guests took part in one-to-one business matching meetings between Philippine developers and potential UK investors.
Leading players in the hospitality industry, asset and investment management firms and banks attended the event including prominent names such as IMG, Royal Bank of Scotland, Club Med, Orient Express, and Six Senses resorts among others.
Just a few weeks after the event, a couple of the participants have already signified strong investment and development interest in the country as reported by jubilant Philippine developers with whom they are already actively liaising.
PDOT Continues London Routemaster Bus Campaign
PDOT London is delighted to announce that it will be renewing its contract with London Heritage Travel to have its four Routemaster buses sport the Philippines brand campaign.
The Routemaster Bus campaign, now entering its fourth year has been highly successful in promoting the Philippines brand in the streets of London and its surrounding cities. These iconic double-decker buses which have a very strong visual presence everywhere they go, continue to generate greater awareness for the Philippines and entice travellers to visit our wonderful shores.

Social media, quite possibly the most significant outcome of Web 2.0 already affects the lives of approximately three quarters of a billion people globally. With the pace of new technology cropping up rapidly, PDOT London constantly keeps updated with the latest trends to fully optimize its online promotional campaigns.
PDOT London has capitalized on the massive reach of Facebook by creating its own Philippines Fan Page two years ago. The Page keeps users updated with PDOT London's latest programs, events, photos and activities.
Since its launch, PDOT is proud to report that its official Philippines Facebook Page already has an impressive 5,565 fans and reaches over 1100 monthly active users. Each article posted on the wall receives over 2700+ page impressions (the number of times an article is seen on the page or in each fan's newsfeed).
