Philippine Scores at the Taste of PATA Event

PDOT London had quite a coup promoting the Tourism banner to the UK travel trade at the recent Taste of PATA event at Borough market last September. The annual Taste of PATA evening showcases the region through a range of activities by participating tourism boards.

This year’s attendance was a highly encouraging 24 percent increase in numbers from the previous year, underlining the significance of the event. Enthusiastic visitors to the Philippines stand include Kuoni, British Airways Holidays, Dive in Style, Funway Holidays and Premier Holidays, all of which already sell flights and packages to the Philippines.

Kenwood, Flight Centre and STA Travel called on PDOT London to conduct future training and presentation at their offices due to the increased demand for Philippine holidays. PDOT London was also able to discuss the possibility of future joint-promotional activities with a number of travel trade representatives for the coming year.

The Philippines’ triumph at the event pushes the momentum forward as the country prepares to host the PATA Travel Mart in Manila in 2012.

Philippines at the TTG Incontri

Rimini Fiera, 6-8 October

The Travel Trade Gazette (TTG) Incontri continues to be the largest event for the travel industry targeting the outbound market in Italy. It has been going on for 16 years, attracting 40,000 trade visitors over the 3-day event.

The Philippines is set to make a determined push for the Italian trade by bringing together a number of top diving and leisure operators, resorts and airlines. PDOT London will be joined by Sampaguita/Asia Holidays, Intas Destinations, Annsett Holidays, Go Asia, Cathay Pacific and Philippine Airlines.

Visit the Philippines Stand at Stand 073-074 at PAD B3.

Participation at TTG is the highlight of a wave of promotional activities supported by PDOT London in Italy recently. Last week, Interface Tourism, PDOT's partner in Rome, gave a presentation on the Philippines to over 500 visitors at a dive convention hosted by H2O in Rome.

PDOT at the Philippine Cultural Tourism Week in Riga, Latvia

PDOT London will be assisting the Stockholm Philippine Embassy, which will be holding a Cultural and Tourism Week in Riga from 11-15 October at the historic Foreign Art Museum.

On 11 October, PDOT London will be giving a tourism presentation to Latvian tour operators. This represents a drive to bring the Philippine Tourism campaign to new emerging outbound markets such as Latvia. Meetings and sales calls are also lined up with the operators to discuss future joint promotional campaigns and familiarization trips.

There will also be performances by the multi-awarded University of Santo Tomas (UST) singers at the Museum for the week. The renowned choir has bagged prestigious awards including the Grand Prize "Choir of the World" at the Llangollen International Music Festival in Wales and the Grand International Prize at the Festival International de Polifonia Y Habernas de Torrevieja in Spain last year.

An art exhibition of the works of five Filipino artists will be showcased during the week-long event.

Ariara Island - Palawan

Ariara Island, located in the Calamianes group of islands in Palawan, prides itself as the ultimate "off-the-beaten-track" destination. It is accessible by a short hop to Busuanga airport from Manila and a yacht transfer.

The private tropical island is surrounded by white sandy beaches and hundreds of protected coral reefs. The entire island is available to let exclusively for large groups or if you want the whole island to yourself. There are eight villas and suites for up to 17 guests, each with its own terrace and garden.

Ariara scored a publicity coup last week when it was picked as the main feature on the travel section of the Evening Standard. PDOT London is set to meet the McCulloch's along with their PR firm, Daisy Bird this month to discuss future press trip possibilities.

Dive in Style - Ariara Island

Dive in Style, part of the Original Travel group, is offering a 7-night getaway to exclusive Ariara Island for groups of 15-17 to have the whole island to yourself.

Diving in the island, with its own PADI divemaster, is spectacular, with hundreds of coral reefs and an incredible diversity of marine life. Incredible wreck diving is found around Busuanga and Coron Bay where US forces sunk 13 Japanese naval ships in 1944. The divemaster at Ariara has even recently discovered the intact wreck of a US supply boat from WWII just two miles away. Some of the world’s finest dive sites: Tubbataha (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Apo Reef are also accessible on longer trips. On the fauna front, there are four endangered species of turtle including Hawksbill, Leatherback, Olive Ridley, and Green turtles to see, many of whom return annually to lay their eggs along Ariara’s main beach. In short, the diving is world-class, and all accessible in the company of your own private guides.

All international/domestic flights and land/boat transfers are included. Full-board meals and activities are on order with two dives. Guests have free use of all watersport equipments: 100ft tri-maran, 33ft speedboat, two high-powered jets skis, dive boat, a rigid-inflatable-boat, kayaks, windsurfers, waterskis, wakeboards, fishing and snorkeling equipment.
