The eyes of the world's media are fixed on London this season given the recently concluded Queen's Jubilee and again on the much awaited London 2012 Summer Olympics. The renowned transport system of the city such as the London Underground, the iconic red double-decker buses and black cabs are at the centre of media interest as the 9 million additional visitors from all over the world will be using these services during the games.

The Philippines Department of Tourism (PDOT) is set to capitalize on these lucrative platforms to promote the "It's More Fun in the Philippines" brand with eye-catching and enticing adverts while the global audience's attention is at its highest. The tourism campaign will be seen on the black cabs, red double-decker bus and on huge 16-sheet posters across the London Underground tube network.

Tourism Campaign Promoted during the Barrio Fiesta in London 2012

The Philippines Department of (PDOT) London proudly showcased its new tourism brand "It's More Fun in the Philippines” to over 60,000 visitors during the Barrio Fiesta in Lampton Park, London last 30 June - 1 July. The annual Barrio Fiesta, now on its 28th iteration, represents the biggest Philippine festival in Europe.

The Fiesta was supported by the Philippine Embassy and PDOT while the following companies and organizations participated: travel companies, real-estate developers, freight forwarders, Philippine magazines and broadsheets in the UK, remittance and social services, TV studios, mobile-phone network providers, various clubs and associations and of course a host of restaurateurs and caterers.

At the Fiesta, visitors to the PDOT booth eagerly collected promotional materials sporting the new tourism logos. Destination flyers - Bohol, Boracay and Manila, Philippine A3 Map Pads, Dive brochures ran out by the end of the show. "Fun" Magazines printed by Reader's Digest containing useful information on the country's new attractions and experiences were also distributed.

Philippines Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) in cooperation with PDOT London also launched its “Pinoy Homecoming” program during the two-day fiesta. Members of the Asian Journal Publication in New York, the official partners of TPB and various private sector companies, gave out discounted vouchers and rebates from top hotels/resorts, tour packages and mobile sim cards to returning Filipinos (Balikbayan). The program is designed to encourage balikbayans to visit other parts of the country when they go on holidays to the Philippines as well as offer incentives to invite foreign friends and families. This represents one of the many Public/ Private Partnership (PPP) programs of the Department under the national tourism campaign.

PDOT also gave out "It's More Fun" stickers where fiesta-goers happily spread the fun by sticking them all around the park, on marquees, ice-cream vendor carts, bags, newspapers and even on their own clothing.

Philippines Gearing Up for PATA Travel Mart in Manila in September

The PDOT and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) of the Philippines together with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) are busy with the preparations for the PATA Travel Mart on September 25-28 at the SMX Convention Centre in Manila.

It will be the second time that the country will be hosting the event since the first PTM in Manila back in 1978. This time it will be under the banner of the Philippines’ national campaign, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines”. Targeted delegates from PATA’s worldwide membership will be coming to Manila to engage with the local travel industry such as tour operators, hotels/resorts, airlines, cruise ships, restaurants, malls, various service providers and MICE related sectors among many others.

The Philippines will also showcase its 4,681 new luxury hotel/resort rooms and other high-end amenities that have been recently developed from foreign and local investments.

Kadayawan sa Davao

Davao's annual festival, "Kadayawan sa Davao," coincides with the harvest of fruits and the blooming of flowers.

The festival promises a weekend of fanfare and fun showcasing Davao's arts and cultural heritage with ethno-cultural presentations, food expos, street parties and many other exciting activities. The festivities reaches its climax on the Saturday with spectacular Kadawayan parade featuring beautiful orchid-and-fern bedecked floats and ethnic groups dancing to the beat of wooden drums, native guitars and other indigenous instruments.

Ariara Island in Palawan is Named Number 1 Holiday Destination Worldwide by Vogue UK Magazine

Last 19-24 November 2011, the Philippines Department of Tourism London together with Daisy Bird PR organised a familiarization trip for four high-profile travel writers to visit the highly-exclusive Ariara Island ( Located in northern of Palawan, Ariara is an exclusive getaway that can host up to 17 holiday makers.

The influential group of writers contribute to many prestigious publications in the UK namely: The Spectator, The Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, The Independent, The Scotsman, Tatler, How to Spend It, Financial Times, Telegraph Ultratravel, Conde Nast Traveller, Vanity Fair, City AM, Easy Living, Wall Street Journal Europe, AMEX Departures, Barclays ‘Little Book of Wonders’ and the Times.

Since then, Ariara has enjoyed immense positive publicity with the first features coming out as early as January 2012. In the annual travel issue of the Times Magazine, Ariara is credited as the "Best Private Island Resort". In Independent's "Life's a tag: 2012's most surprising holiday destinations", Ariara was listed as one of the best islands to visit this year. Black Tomato also recognised the island as “the” place to visit in 2012 as featured on the Evening Standard.

More illustrious UK magazines featured the private island destination from February to March including Angels and Urchins, Harrods Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, The Spectator, Wine and Dine, Urbanollogy and Tatler.

The momentum continued with Ariara being noticed by other publications, spurred by the efforts of Daisy Bird PR. In the August issue of Vogue UK Magazine, the island paradise received its best plaudit yet, by being named as the top hottest and most fashionable destination among a hundred getaway destinations worldwide.

Boracay Named World's Best Island Destination

The island, known for its powdery-white sand and clear waters, topped the magazine’s 2012 World’s Best Awards with a rating of 93.10, beating the popular Indonesian destination Bali Island, which ranked second with 90.41. Boracay ranked fourth in the same category in 2011.

The magazine’s annual World’s Best Awards rates hotels, islands, destination spas, golf resorts and rental-car agencies. The ranking is based on an online survey among its readers.

Also cited in the awards was the Discovery Shores Boracay resort, which ranked fifth in the top 100 hotels in the world (from 55th last year) and second top resort in Asia (from 8th last year). The posh resort also bagged the best hotel spa in Asia award.
