Philippine Travel Exchange 08 (PHITEX)


The Department of Tourism (DOT) is pleased to announce the staging of the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) at SMX Manila on 10-11 September 2008.

There are approximately 150 carefully selected buyers expected to attend the event with a great majority coming from Europe. They will have the opportunity to meet with their counterparts from local Philippine suppliers during the trade show.

PHITEX is the premiere business to business oriented travel fair in the Philippines which provides a unique venue for buyers from all over the world to meet with Philippine sellers. It takes place over a period of two days and is followed by a specially designed post tour programme and site inspection visits to some of the country's top tourist destinations such as Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, Davao and Bohol. There are currently over 150 buyers from all over the world meeting with some 150 top business suppliers in the Philippines, including hotels, resorts, ground handlers and airline carriers.

NAIA-3 To Start Limited International Operations next Month

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 will start servicing international flights next month on a limited basis to pave the way for the facility's full operations next year, officials said yesterday.

This as President Arroyo also said that the opening of NAIA-3 is proof of the government's "resolve and determination to move forward" towards economic progress.

The facility recently opened for domestic flights with Cebu Pacific. Yesterday, Philippine Airlines (PAL) Express and Air Philippines also began domestic flight operations at the NAIA-3.

Firm Completes study on $2 Billion Project in Zambales


PALAUIG, ZAMBALES, Philippines ???ǥ A Korean urban planner and developer has completed a feasibility study for Mt. Tapulao, which the local government wants to turn into a major tourist destination in Asia.

The development blueprint involves the construction of five-star hotels, leisure facilities, casinos, concert halls, condominiums and villas, as well as an 18-hole golf course within a 450-hectare area of the mountain.

The $2-billion project will be patterned after Genting Highlands in Malaysia, and Yeosu Hwayang Tourism Complex and Gampo Complex in Gyeongju City, both in Korea, said Sang-Hyun Park, vice-chairman and director for Overseas Project division of Korean developer Dongho Co., Ltd.

Tasting the Philippines Tourist Spots - A Three Generational View from Britian

With friends and relatives representing three generations visiting the Philippines over the holiday season, I have had plenty of opportunities recently to see some of the Philippines' tourist attractions - a welcome change from the inside of Government Departments and company offices! Our visitors' impressions and insights have been overwhelmingly positive although, as with a tourist to any country, they had suggestions how some things might be better.

Top of my visiting friends' polls were the country's golf courses, in particular Santa Elena, Southwoods and the Bagiuo courses - not to mention Malarayat. They found them to be on par with or often better than almost any they have played in Portugal, Spain, the UK or the United States. They were pleasantly surprised by the generally small numbers of players on most of the courses, but left with a the strong impression that there must be a European, as well as a Korean market waiting to be tapped by more adventurous entrepreneurs: the courses are simply world class.
